Meet American Pop Artist Michael Albert!

Meet American Pop Artist Michael Albert at Central Library on Friday, June 28th from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm. “New York-based Pop Artist Michael Albert will bring his Modern Pop Art Experience to Los Angeles for the first time this summer as part of a two-month Pop Art Tour.” Mr. Albert will be running a special Open Drop-In Workshop, where participants will first hear a short artist talk/presentation and then will have the opportunity to “make their collage using Albert’s materials of choice, namely cereal boxes and other printed cardboard packages.” As a special gift for attending, all participants will receive a free, signed poster from a selection of Mr. Albert’s limited edition prints.

Cars and Stripes Forever

Participants get the chance to try a different dance style each week. Westfield Fashion Square is hosting its weekly Movies On the Roof series throughout the summer. The outdoor “movie-screening experience includes comfortable seating on plush bean bag chairs or deep-seated Adirondack chairs,?state-of-the-art projection and sound, and valley views in an upscale event space on the rooftop of Westfield Fashion Square.” Doors open at 7:30 pm with music, games, and giveaways to enjoy before the movie starts at sunset (around 8:30 pm). A number of special activities are planned, such as a “trio of Founding Fellows — Ben Franklin, Thomas Jefferson & Betsy Ross — will share fascinating stories about their role in the creation of our great nation.” Additionally, visitors can print their own copy of the Declaration of Independence, take part in hands-on activities, enjoy interactive tours, printing demos, and more. Star Wars Day at the OC Zoo

Mark your calendars. On Saturday, June 29th from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm, the Force is with you, because it’s Star Wars Day at the OC Zoo. The fun includes crafts, games, and fun photo opportunities. Zoo animals will receive special treats, and there will be animal meet-and-greets. Visitors are encouraged to wear Star Wars costumes/attire. The first 100 children (12 and younger) in Star Wars costume will receive a special gift and a free train ride ticket to the Irvine Park Railroad. 2nd Annual Inglewood Music Festival

Participants will cycle through six miles of Culver City neighborhoods.This is a free event, but RSVP is required to participate in the Ride. Then after the Pride Ride, the fun continues with the Rally that will be held on Main Street in Downtown Culver City from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. The rally will feature live DJs, drag performances, community booths, face painting, food, and more.Both events are family-friendly; however, no bicycles with training wheels are allowed for the Pride Ride.

Family Matinee: Batman: Mask of the Phantasm

As part of its Family Matinee program, New Beverly Cinema is screening Batman: Mask of the Phantasm on Saturday, June 29th and Sunday, June 30th at 2:00 pm. “The theatrical companion to television’s critically acclaimed Batman: The Animated Series finds the dark knight in a desperate fight to save Gotham City from its deadliest enemy!” The movie features stellar voice acting, including Mark Hamill as the Joker. The Getty Center invites families to participate in Sun Print: Family Workshop, happening on Sunday, June 30th from 11:00 am to 2:30 pm. “Harness the power of the sun to make one-of-a-kind photographic prints called cyanotypes by arranging flowers, leaves, and stencils on light-sensitive material.” This is a free, drop-in program. Timed admission tickets are required and are available online.

2024 Day of the Ancestors: Festival of Masks is happening in Leimert Park on Sunday, June 30th from 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm. This special event will “honor our ancestors and celebrate the rich traditions of the African Diaspora.” Festivities include drumming, dancing, mask-making, food, performances, and more. Rancho Los Alamitos invites families to its Summer Concert Series happening on Sunday, June 30th (as well as the last Sunday of July and August). Sunday’s concert features Kid Ramos. “Grab lawn chairs and a picnic dinner and join us for a night with family and friends amid our lush historic grounds.” Since there will be no onsite parking, a shuttle service will be available. Doors open at 4:30 pm, and the event takes place from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. RSVPs are encouraged.

The City of Manhattan Beach begins its free Concerts in the Park series on Sunday, June 30th with a performance by The Satin Dollz. The Satin Dollz are described as a “stunning ensemble of singing, tap dancing, and downright charming ladies, who have delighted audiences young and old, stateside and overseas, with their blended vocal harmonies, high energy tap dancing, sparkling charisma and stunning beauty wrapped up in a retro bow.” Remember to bring your blankets, lawn chairs, and pines. Seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis. (Concerts will be held each week through September 1st.)

The music begins at 4:30 pm and will feature a performance by The Astro Yachts. Remember to bring your blankets and picnics.
