The beginning of that trailer is a masterclass of a fake out.

"Wait, Zelda's kidnapped again? There's no way they can do that anymore"

*Link fires the arrow breaking her crystal prison*

    Oh?

    *Link falls into the void*

    OH

*Zelda runs away all by herself*

    OHHHHHH!!!!

reposting what I said in the general Switch thread.

I really like them using the LA remake style. This is exactly what I was hoping they'd do when the remake was first announced: use that engine for smaller games between the big flagship titles.

I also appreciate them giving Zelda her own identity with magic instead of just a sword like Link.

The "overworld is the puzzle" style reminds me of Minish Cap. I wonder if it will have dungeons though, or be just the puzzle-overworld?

Feel free to discuss everything we can see in this trailer and your hopes for the game! A new 2D Zelda is something I never thought I'd see on the Switch and I'm so excited to see that this format of Zelda game didn't die with the 3DS!

You can definitely see some of the design ethos of TotK carrying forward to this game which is cool.

Yess, that was a great switch up.

This is about where I’m at. I love the artstyle, it being 2D, The idea of how Zelda plays.

I think what’s holding me back is the echoes have a bit of “ultrahand” feel? Making one’s own solution based on what you have, which ultimately leaves me curious as to what puzzles will actually look like and be designed (were those often a strength of the 2D? I haven’t played them all, admittedly). Less wary than I was with TotK, but still a curiosity.

That coupled with: what, if any, are the limits of the echoes? Is it scan once and you can make as many as you want? 1:1 scan/use to play even more into wisdom? How many can you cast at once? Alas, that is currently “wait and see” info.

Was there both types of Zora in this new 2d game or am I seeing things? Anyway, super exciting, 2d Zelda has a real chance to deviate from the BotW formula.

Quote from Mango The MagicianI just hope there's a proper story and dungeons.

Just this. It doesn't need to be crazy "grand" and "epic", games like Spirit Tracks and ALBW had stories I really enjoyed. But Aonuma's comments about freedom still have me worried, maybe he won't be the main director since he might already be working on the next 3d

Not to get too far ahead, but the old-school depiction of Ganon might place this game easily in the DT. It would be really cool to have the first "Zelda" game come right after the first two in the series.

One thing I adore about this game is it seems to be a merge of different maps and peoples from across the series; obviously the two types Zoras are there, as well as the Gerudo (odd for what seems to be DT), but even the environments seem like a cross between OoT, AlttP, and FSA. Very cool stuff.

I was watching the Direct on a stream, and when the trailer started we all immediately jumped to "Oh, Switch Oracle remakes?!" Then the reveal hit. I was not prepared. Echoes of Wisdom announcement thread - Zelda Universe Forums (7)

I'm so excited for this. A little bit bummed that (so far, at least) Zelda doesn't seem to have any inherent combat magic and has to rely on the staff and copy ability, but still, those themselves look fun and interesting, I'm intrigued to see how it works!

And we're getting Zelda as an actual protag. What a time to be alive!

I'm so happy, it feels so nice to be hyped for something in this series again! Echoes of Wisdom announcement thread - Zelda Universe Forums (8)

    Rundown of things I noticed:

    • Gerudos exist. They have the BOTW clothing and proportions but have round ears.
    • There's a Impa like character (looks BOTW-ish.)
    • Both types of Zoras.
    • Deku scrubs are back.
    • There's a Deku Tree.
    • Link wasn't using the Master Sword.
    • Death mountains location is weird.

I was just taking screenshots for the same kind of post!

Old man who seems to be a Sheikah based on his Japanese-style furniture: https://i.imgur.com/pHZKBbO.jpeg

Impa(?) fighting castle guards. Also a Hylia statue: https://i.imgur.com/RkIHLkQ.jpeg

Notably with the Gerudo one, Zelda is sneaking over the town walls instead of using the front entrance. Maybe the Gerudo aren't friendly here, like in OoT? Or the town could just be under lockdown for some reason.

What is the percent chance of any mention of Zonai in this game? Imo not high

Genuinely curious how this will play. Will Zelda get a sword or rely on her magic?

First time I've been really excited for a big mix up.

I wouldn't bet on it. I expect its story to be pretty self-contained.

That lantern design in the old man's house is taken directly from the wild era games I think so he's definitely a "BOTW type" Sheikah.

    EnigmaFarce

It's probably a coincidence but the coloring on Links sword and bow reminds me very much of the Zonaite weapons.

Thought her initial design was just the ALTTP one, but it actually seems to be a simplified combo of ALTTP/ALBW and OOT

That is interesting Mango. I was wondering if this is even canon. But these are good catches. When reading what you are saying, it makes me feel the game takes place before BOTW, like maybe the game is where the traditions begin.

Getting Kakariko (OoT) and Hateno Village vibes from this town on the Title Card : https://imgur.com/a/PZFy9Sw

It doesn't look like the Kakariko in ALBW/ALttP.

I also what to know who's living in these huts : https://imgur.com/a/3L1W3Lr

Zora? That would be quite different from BotW/ToTK.

This is a minor thing but it’s interesting that the the series seems to be keeping the all white logo that started with BotW going forward.

I mean I think it's probably canon, it'll probably just be like BOTW and TotK where placing it in the timeline is a headache. I just pray it doesn't reference BOTW and TotK as legends that happened in the past. Echoes of Wisdom announcement thread - Zelda Universe Forums (11)

Also this is a minor complaint but I hate how Death Mountain is west of Hyrule Castle. It's usually one of the most consistent landmarks and it's always to the east.
